Gnaneshwar Naveen hails from the city known as the sugar factory of Karnataka – Mandya. Born on 24th May 1994, the 23-year-old Naveen is a seaming all-rounder who has lively pace in his kitty and usually bats higher up the order. He boasts a knack of plugging the run flow and picking up wickets in crucial junctures and is also very handy with the willow.
He represented Mysuru Warriors in the 2015 edition of the Karnataka Premier League and thereafter, moved to Bijapur Bulls.
Naveen started playing cricket at the age of 7 and it took him almost 2 years to play his first competitive leather ball fixture at a summer camp back in Mandya. When asked about what drove him to take up cricket as a career, the young Naveen said, “I went along with my dad regularly to the local tennis ball matches and it was quite fascinating to watch him play and eventually the love and passion for the game of cricket developed in me.”
Right from his childhood, Naveen was completely a right-handed all-rounder and he has gone on to make numerous appearances for almost all the age-groups of zonal level cricket in Karnataka. In addition to this, Naveen has played more than once for the Under-19, Under-21, Under-23 as well as the Under-25 sides which undoubtedly underlines the invaluable exposure and experience the 23-year-old has garnered already.
The youngster is a constant presence in the Karnataka ‘A’ side for a couple of years now and awaits his turn to don state colours in first-class cricket. Naveen is highly ambitious and confident about breaking through given his versatility on the cricket field. His match-winning knock of 132 runs against Haryana in the CK Naidu Under-23 tournament last year, remains to be the highlight of the very promising cricketer from Karnataka.
When asked about his routine and motto in life, Naveen was quick to reply, “I work out for two hours in the morning and I have been working in the Canara Bank for the last few months. After the work hours, I visit the ground and practice for another two to three hours on an everyday basis because there is no gain without pain.”
Meanwhile, the Bulls’ all-rounder reveres Shane Watson on the International arena for the fact that even he is an all-rounder. The Mandya-born lad is a fan of home-made delicacies but Italian cuisine has drawn ample amount of his attention as well. In addition to this, Naveen revealed that Maldives is his favorite holiday destination.
