Most of the stories about a cricketer taking up cricket is fascinating to hear and one such tale is that of the fast-medium pacer from Karnataka – H.S.Sharath. Sharath was born in a family that was financially humble and hails from a village situated 25 kilometers from Mandya. During his formative years, Sharath aspired to become a Kabaddi player and it was only at the age of 16 that he developed great interest for cricket.

Born on 6th of February 1993, Sharath was backed to follow his dreams by his father who happens to be an agriculturist by profession. By 2009, Sharath was already making a strong statement in the Under-19 tournaments from the Mysore Zone. After years of perseverance and consistency, Sharath’s dream became reality during the 2012/13 edition of the Ranji Trophy. In a match against Uttar Pradesh in Meerut, Sharath was handed his debut and the lapped it up with both hands. .

In the very first innings, the lanky pacer picked up 5 wickets to rip through the opposition’s batting order. The first season proved to be very productive for Sharath as he ended up with 24 wickets in just 7 outings. His First-class figures are highly impressive because he is only 14 wickets short of his 100th scalp. However, despite lack of success in the limited overs format, the gritty Sharath is engrossed about doing well in the forthcoming opportunities.

Sharath underlined his humble characteristic trait when he said that he is happy with his earnings by playing the longest format of the game and also the banking job at State Bank of Mysore, which has ensured financial stability and security in his life. His daily routine includes working at the bank and also consists of hours of practice in the evening at the M.Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore. In addition to this, Sharath is grateful to his former roommate and fellow bowling partner Abhimanyu Mithun for the undeviating support he has provided over the years which has helped him stay motivated.

In the 2014 edition of the IPL Auction, Sharath was auctioned by the Delhi Daredevils for his base price of 10 lacs. In the KPL, Sharath has represented Belgavi Panthers for 3 editions and will now play for the Bijapur Bulls for the first time in what will be his fourth season of KPL.
