Cricket can be a demanding sport. Batsmen are required to bat at a variety of positions based on the requirements of the team and scenarios in a format. Shoaib Malik is one of them who has batted up and down the order and the KPL’s version of Malik is Nidhish Mohanram.
Nidhish was born in Shimoga, located in the Western Ghats of Karnataka on 28th of July 1988. Nidhish played cricket from a very tender age but started practicing with the leather ball only at the age of 13. When asked about when exactly his affection towards cricket surged, he said, “It was my father’s dream that I take up cricket as a profession. Instead of toys I was always presented with a cricket bat and ball by my dad and I represented the Under-14 team instantly after practicing leather ball cricket.”
It did not take long for the right-handed Nidhish to catch the eye of the State-level selectors and he played his first state level match at the age of 16 in an Under-16 tournament and has subsequently played the Under-19, Under-22 and Under-25 formats of the game. Nidhish has revealed that since his childhood days, he has been a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar. The batsman has been a regular for the Bangalore city based first division club – Swastic Union – after initially playing for Rajajinagar Colts at the age of 17. Nidhish was a part of the 2009-10 KPL edition when he played for Shamanoor Davangere Diamonds and since then, has gone on to represent 3 more KPL clubs.
Since 2009, Nidhesh has been an important part of every side he has represented and has scored over 120 runs in all the editions of the KPL. His best season however was in the year 2014/15 where he scored 198 runs at an impressive T20 average of 28.28. With his current franchise, he has already won the KPL tournament in the year 2015 as well. Away from the game, Nidhish is a central government employee and works for the excise and customs department since the age of 25 and resides in the capital of Karnataka – Bangalore.
His love for tattoos and Netflix shows is evident because of the full length tattoo he sports on his arms. When asked about the motto he follows in life, Nidhish showcased his jovial side as well. He said, “Well, there are so many quotes I have seen but hardly remember any when you need them (grins). But I would say, give 100% every day and even if you fail it will be a learning curve for you.”
The year 2016 was slightly disappointing for the batting specialist Nidhish because of the shoulder injury he sustained. But he is fit again thanks to the disciplined routine he follows which always includes jogging on an everyday basis to maintain the required levels of fitness.
