Right after the inception of T20 cricket, the first impression was that it would be a nail in the coffin for the spinners. But over the years, spinners in the T20 format have proved to be potential game-changers. After taking up cricket at the age of 14, Prashanth has already represented the Under-14, Under-16 and Under-23 sides.
In the 2017/18 edition of the KPL season, the Bijapur Bulls added the 22-year-old off-spinner Prashanth S to their squad and the spinner is delighted. He said, “It is a great exposure for me. I will be a part of the KPL side for the first time this season and to play alongside players like Bharath Chipli, Abhimanyu Mithun will be a great experience. Everyone in the team is very supportive and we are looking forward to it.”
The off-spinner is exceptionally good with the bat and has garnered decent success while plying his trade for the First division club – Bangalore Occasionals – for the last six years. The spinner is renowned for his quickfire knocks and also for picking up 5-wicket hauls on a regular basis. His best figures have come against Swastic II where he picked up 6 wickets for his side.
Asked about the variations and near-term ambitions, Prashanth replied, “I would definitely like to play for Karnataka in the Ranji Trohpy and then the IPL too. But to play for India will be the ultimate goal”. Apart from cricket, Prashanth is also pursuing M.Com via correspondence in Bangalore.
