Born in Mumbai, Atul Gala’s parents shifted their base to Bangalore when Atul was as young as 3 years. Despite playing tennis ball cricket in his childhood, it was only at the age of 16 that Atul joined the city-based Karnataka Institute of Cricket (KIOC). He started as a fast bowler and has represented the Vultures Cricket Club and has also made it to the Karnataka Under-25 squad.
After missing out on the 2016 edition of the Karnataka Premier League, Atul is all set to be in action for the first time in the fashionable KPL when he plays for the Bijapur Bulls in the sixth edition this year. When asked about the same, the speedster replied, “Bijapur Bulls is great because of the support the coaches give you. They give you all the freedom to express yourselves and the fact that I will be playing alongside senior Karnataka players like H.S Shararh, Ronit More and Abhimanyu Mithun has added to my elation.”
The Ranji Trophy bowling trio of Sharath, Mithun and More also hail from the same club that Atul represents – Vultures Cricket Club. However, Atul has revealed that his bowling inspiration is not any Indian pacer but the pace spearhead of South Africa – Dale Steyn. Apart from cricket, Atul follows plenty of other sports including Football and Tennis. One of his favorite pastime is to spend hours gaming with the PlayStation along with a huge chunk of like-minded friends.
The pacer is hopeful of making it to the Under-23 side and asserted the same when asked about his near-term ambitions. He said, “Well, I would like to improve from the base I already have and make it to the Under-23 side right after the KPL. Eventually I want to play for the Karnataka side as well in the Ranji Trophy and then dream bigger.”
Having battled numerous amount of injuries in his budding career, Atul did not forget to mention how much he admires veteran Karnataka and India seamer Sreenath Aravind, who despite struggling with injuries revived his career.
