Different formats of cricket demand different roles in the squad and in the T20 format of the game, the all-rounders are pretty crucial in the playing XI. That said, the challenges lined up for an all-rounder is immense because the natural expectation is for them to shine both with the bat and the ball. GM Rishab is one such all-rounder who plies his trade for the Bijapur Bulls as a left-handed batsman and leg-break bowler who has exhibited a lot of promise at the age of 22.

Rishab took up leather ball cricket at the age of 12 and considered it as a serious profession while he was in his tenth grade. Within a span of two years, Rishab tasted great success and was picked to play for the Karnataka Under-19 side when he was a 17-year-old. He played for the Under-19 side for successive years and is now a regular club cricketer.

When asked about his memorable experiences in his brief cricketing journey, Rishab said, “I played in the Mangalore Premier League last December and was part of the winning squad there. Then, last year I was picked by the Namma Shivamogga side which added to my elation.”

Rishab’s day begins early and he ensures that the practice sessions are wrapped up for the day at a single stretch. He trains for about 5 hours a day and on the academic front, he is an MBA aspirant as well. It won’t be long before you take note of his appealing voice and he revealed that he is a professional singer too.

He shed more light on his off the cricket activities – “I am a singer and along with the company of two of my friends, we run a band together named BORNOLD, and we perform in the city whenever possible. In my free time, I follow various TV shows with Game of Thrones and Friends being on top of the stack.”

Rishab dreams about playing for the Karnataka team in a couple of years of time and is keen to excel in the forthcoming edition of KPL.
